- 5.0 out of 5 stars from Hob Osterlund -- Stunning and exquisite : Kathleen Dean Mooreʻs passion for the natural world is eloquent and curious and funny. She seeks out—and stumbles upon—all manner of life forms great and small, seen and unseen, living and dead. She does not flinch when she describes the impact of human destruction; no, instead she elevates the beauty of what remains. The greatest analogy (which made me gasp) is her own beloved husbandʻs life-threatening illness, a prognosis she describes only once halfway through the book, and never mentions again. As with calving and disappearing glaciers. she feels the wonder and articulates the words that make melting beautiful. In short, she finds wild music in the growing silence. - 5.0 out of 5 stars from John C. Krieg -- Do you hear what she hears? : If you have ever tried to write about nature and the environment, as I have on many occassions, Kathleen Dean Moore's "Earth's Wild Music" is humbling. Moore has a keen ear and a gifted sense of meaning concerning what the sounds of the wild tell her - mostly the huge tragedy of the loss whenever they fall silent due to extinction. Staggering. Beautiful. Lyrical. Simpe in its concept, this book is masterful in its execution. ( Reviewed in the United States on February 21, 2021 )
- 5.0 out of 5 stars from janie chodosh, Author -- Fabulous writing, important book : Kathleen Dean Moore is a must read writer on the topic of the natural world and what we stand to lose. She can make me cry and laugh out loud, often on the same page. This collection of essays is nothing short of brilliant. I have bookmarked nearly every page for one reason or another. Read it, then act. ( Reviewed in the United States on April 1, 2021 )
